zurko research is a biotechnology company with laboratories in the Regional Center for Biomedicine Research (CRIB) in Albacete.

The R&D activities are focused in areas such as biotechnology, protein production for industrial uses, bioprocesses and biomedicine; zurko research's R&D activities are directly oriented towards the resolution of specific problems and needs in the industrial sector of the region.

zurko research is  also part of Albacete´s Science and Technology Park (PCyTA) fostering the biotechnology research in the region of Castilla-La Mancha.

zurko research has made a strong effort in R&D, 92% of its annual balance sheet is dedicated to R&D activities.

RESEARCH AREAS

Biotechnology of Industrial Biohydrolysis. In this domain zurko research is developing the following R&D lines:

1)      Identification of biohydrolysis processes using specific bacterial strains and enzymes that decompose hard-to-degrade animal proteins from slaughterhouses wastes (category 3).  Our goal is to develop a method that could be replicated and commercialized which would produce a protocol in the valorization of residues from the meat industry in the production of biopesticides and phyto-stimulants (see VIABA-Profit, APTAR and CowtoPlant Projects).

2)      Purification of Proteases responsible of decomposing category 3 animal residues and to commercialize them. (see our catalogue of enzymes):

Enzymatic hydrolysis

Biotechnology of Biocatalysts Processes.

zurko research is exploring complex multienzymatic metabolic pathways for the production of Omega 3 and 6 from diverse vegetable oils. Such processes are now at the laboratory scale. Our objective is to generate the technology that would allow obtaining high added value food supplements in a simple and fast way (see OMEG6 and ENZY-DHA Projects).

Biomedicine and Molecular Diagnostics. zurko research is interested in developing diagnostic techniques using molecular tools. Such molecular diagnostics provide faster and more accurate alternative methods than traditional microbiology or immunology-based analysis.
